Meet Our Director

Leslie Gaston-Bird CAS MPSE is author of the book "Women in Audio", part of the AES Presents series published by Focal Press (Routledge). She is an Avid Certified Dolby Atmos Professional and Dante Level-3 Certified audio engineer working as a freelance re-recording mixing (dubbing) and sound editing under the banner Mix Messiah Productions. She is also a voting member of the Recording Academy (The Grammys®) and its P&E (Producers and Engineers) Wing.

Leslie was recently voted in as incoming President-Elect of the Audio Engineering Society (AES). She was the inaugural chair of the AES DEI Committee. Prior to that, she was a tenured Associate Professor of Recording Arts at the University of Colorado Denver (2005-2018) where she also served as Chair of the Department of Music and Entertainment Industry Studies. She led groups of Recording Arts students in study abroad courses in England, Germany, and Italy which included participation in AES Conventions.

Pro Tools User


To gain the title of Avid Certified User for Pro Tools, you must take two foundational courses, Pro Tools Fundamentals I (PT101) and Pro Tools Fundamentals II (PT110), before sitting and passing the associated certification exam.

Becoming an Avid Certified User for Pro Tools verifies that you possess a fundamental understanding of and the capability to use Avid Pro Tools to engineer a project through to completion, with all of the fundamental operational skills to record, edit, mix and output the finished session.

Pro Tools Operator


In the competitive world of audio post production, knowing the tools of the trade (and how to use them efficiently) is a key to success. The pathway to the gaining the certification of Avid Certified Operator for Pro Tools (Post) will empower you with the skills you need to make the most of your Pro Tools system in a Post Production environment. When successfully completed, your Avid Certified Operator certification will be a valuable, industry-recognized credential.

Avid Pro Tools | Dolby Atmos Professional

Two powerful tools: Pro Tools and the Dolby Atmos Renderer. Learn how they work together during this 5-day pair of courses: PT 205D and PT210D. After each class, you'll take an exam, and after passing both you'll be certified as an Avid Pro Tools Dolby Atmos Professional!

Alexandria Smith

Alexandria Smith is an audio engineer, interactive media artist, scholar, trumpeter, and educator that enjoys working at the intersection of all these disciplines. As an audio engineer, she enjoys recording in multiple styles, and likes to work with artists that are pushing the boundaries of the genres that they work in. She is currently working with Basher, Mark Dresser and Filera. She has also worked with the Actor Project, Marco Blaauw, T.J. Borden, the Chosen Vale Center for Advanced Musical Studies, Rand Steiger, Treesearch,and more. Passionate about taking down barriers to entry in technology, Alexandria builds open source environments for making music with wearable electronics and working teaching audio engineering to folks in underrepresented communities.

Febe Adedamola

Febe Adedamola is an Audio engineer and Social Impact leader with an extensive experience in creating opportunities to advance women’s participation in audio tech and music business. She is an Avid Certified Dolby Atmos Professional and Instructor working as a freelance Recording and Mixing Engineer for both live and digital music.

As a Co-founder of Audio Girl Foundation, Febe is building a strong platform and network for African women who would like to take up careers in audio and music business. She is an Avid Certified instructor and the programs manager for IIAII.

She is an Avid Certified Dolby Atmos Professional and Dante Level-3 Certified audio engineer working as a freelance re-recording mixing (dubbing) and sound editing under the banner Mix Messiah Productions. She is also a voting member of the Recording Academy (The Grammys®) and its P&E (Producers and Engineers) Wing. She is a doctoral candidate at the University of Surrey working on a project titled "Immersive and Inclusive", for which she received support from Innovate UK's Women in Innovation programme.
